Holy Buckets!

This is the Valero station at 341 N. Victory Boulevard in Burbank. As you can see, it has two sets of prices: one for credit, and one for cash/debit. When I saw that I could get the same rate for using my debit card as cash, I decided to get gas. But what you cannot see is that cash and debit cards are not treated the same way. There is a 51 cent fee for using a debit card, which means that if you buy less than 17 gallons of gas it is actually cheaper to use your debit card as a credit card. Annoyed by the sleazy bait-and-switch, I left- which turned out to be good, because my usual Burbank station, the Shell on the corner of Hollywood Way & Magnolia, had gas for less than the cash price of Valero.

This semester's reading list

3 classes. 15 books. Apparently, they expect English majors to, like, read or something. Actually, there are 16 books, but I just realized I'm missing one. Grrr. The best part about being an English major instead of, say, a Chemistry major is that you can find a lot of your books at real used book stores, not textbook used book stores. That hardbound copy of Geek Love cost me less than the used trade would have in the school bookstore.

It only took me an hour or so to figure out how to use Photoshop to poorly imitate <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirby_dots">an effect Jack Kirby could do with a brush in about two seconds</a>.

failed attempt to recapture our past

We thought it would be fun to go to a photo booth and try and recreate <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54596057@N00/74243543/">this picture</a> from high school. Fun, yes. Accurate, no. Also: we went to Cafe 50's (to <a href="http://www.photobooth.net/locations/index.php?locationID=149">this booth</a>, actually) to recreate pictures from the eighties. These pictures warp time.
